Universal connectivity has always been the goal of Facebook. The company believes that the world would be a better place if everybody had equal access to the Internet.
The company has invested in making this possible, and recently, it announced a successful Aquila first flight. This is an unmanned solar-powered airplane that is intended to bring affordable Internet to hundreds of millions of people in the hardest-to-reach places.
The aircraft has an airliner wingspan and consumes only 5,000 watts, which is similar to what microwave consumes. To break the solar-powered unmanned flight record, the aircraft will need to remain on air for two weeks. Facebook is confident that this is achievable with the successful first flight.
