One of East Africa’s largest malls, Garden City, will open its doors tomorrow. This will mark the completion of the first phase of one of the eagerly anticipated 32 acre mixed-use project on Thika Super-Highway in Nairobi, Kenya.
Once complete, the first phase of the Mall will consist of 33,000 square metres of retail space. The mall’s 100+ shops and eating destinations will be arranged around light and airy courtyards and meeting points across three levels, with the first floor anchored by Game, (part of the Walmart Group) store in Kenya, alongside Nakumatt supermarket, Tile & Carpet, and Victoria Courts.
Perhaps Garden city will bring many ‘firsts’ to the Kenyan retail market With its unique state-of-the-art design making maximum use of natural light and fresh air, and the fact that it hosts the largest solar panelled carport in East Africa.
At the heart of it is a central park overlooked by outside seating on the dining terraces, another new feature for Nairobi shoppers. The park is designed for the whole family to enjoy, including play fountains and children’s playground, specially commissioned art installations and an open air Amphitheatre, hosting an extensive programme of events and shows throughout the year.
The Development of the second phase of the project will include additional residential and retail space, transforming it into a 50,000 square metre Mall, a modern business hotel, and more than 25,000 square metres of office space.
Its sheer variety and quality means Garden City will become the leisure destination not just for Nairobi and Kenya but for the whole of East Africa.
