Car maintenance doesn’t always have to be a thing for the mechanic. You can also contribute in a small way to maintain your car at home. Some things you can do are simple and might not even require a toolbox. All you need is a little knowledge and flexibility.

Here are 4 simple car maintenance activities you can do at home:

1. Wash Your Car Regularly

Washing your car regularly is one of the most straight-forward car maintenance activities you can do at home. While the car might look clean by just looking at it, tiny dust particles will always stick to its body. If left there for a long time, the dust will turn into stubborn dirt and may mess up the paint work.

2. Replenish the Windshield Wiper Fluid

There is nothing as bad as driving a car with a dirty windshield, it blocks the driver’s view of the road. If you are serious about car maintenance for safe driving, you must make sure that the windshield wiper fluid reservoir is always filled. Windshield wiper fluid helps to clean off the dirt on your windshield for better visibility.

3. Wiper Blade Cleaning and Replacement

A car’s wiper blades deteriorate and stop functioning well after a while. Therefore, they will need to be replaced with new ones from time to time. You need to replace them as soon as you find out they are not functioning well. Replacing them is easy and does not require much knowledge.

To maintain them and make them work effectively, you need to clean them regularly. To do this, hold the rubber part with a damp cloth and wipe it up and down.

4. Engine Coolant Replacement

Engine coolant replacement is a routine car maintenance task that you can do at home. Over time, the engine coolant’s ability to cool down the engine deteriorates. This increases the risk of the engine overheating.

To replace the engine coolant, drain all the old coolant from the car and replace it with fresh water. Start the engine and let the water circulate for a moment to flush out dirt and clean the coolant path. Repeat this 2-3 times. Finally, pour the new engine coolant in. You should do this at least every two years to ensure that the engine does not overheat. You should also constantly check the coolant level and inspect for leaks.
