A Review of Tecno Boom J8 Android Smartphone

It is now Tecno Boom J8’s turn. Tecno Boom J5 and Boom J7 seem to have fared well in the market. While I have featured this phone in a previous article titled Tecno Boom J8, is here, it is time to delve deeper into the good and the bad in a full review.

Damage: Anything from about KSHS 15,000

What We Think You Need to Know

Design and Display

In all honesty, the appearance of Boom J7 said a lot about its budget status. The case is different with its successor, Boom J8, since the design is more appealing, it appears more high-end. I would go as far as to say that it is the best designed Tecno smartphone. This is despite the fact that it is encrusted in a plastic body. It is among the slimmest smartphones and it is rimmed with a metallic frame.

The device is alleged to have gone through numerous development processes and that explains why the result is a solid product. You can; however, only appreciate what Techno mobile has created by holding it, it does feel premium. The 720 x 1280 pixels display is okay. There is, however, nothing spectacular about the display of this device. I would describe as an average budget smartphone.

Boom J8 is a Dual Sim and the charging port is at the bottom while the earpiece jack is at the top. The speakers are placed beneath the phone so the sound cannot be muffled when the gadget is placed on a flat surface. Another exciting feature is the notification light that appears below the lower bezel. I especially found this feature really cool as it synchronises with what is playing on the device player.

Performance

Boom J8 is fast and fluid and rarely lags or freezes unlike most smartphones. I can confidently report that apps open fast and various functions are performed quickly. This smartphone succeeds in delivering an enjoyable customer experience given the quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A53 processor.

Camera(s)

The smartphone features a 13 MP rear camera for general use and a 5 MP secondary camera suitable for selfies. I found the rear camera okay as it performs quite well in an environment with plenty of light. However, it captures low quality images in low light even with the LED flash. The selfie camera is average; hence, I cannot consider it ideal for selfie lovers.

Battery

The 3000 mAh battery is non-removable. After using it for several weeks, its performance proved satisfactory. When on full charge, the battery lasted an entire day while it took 6-8 hours when used heavily. The downside is that the phone takes a little longer to charge when compared to its predecessors and competitors.

Bottom Line

Boom J8 is an ideal successor of Boom J7. The device will give users an awesome experience. With an excellent design, performance, speed and cost-friendliness, it is an amazing smartphone. Owing to its affordable price, it is an affordable device that succeeds in nailing most basics. This is a phone for anyone who balls on a budget but at the same time hopes to own an appealing and trendy smartphone.
