First of all, you need an eCitizen account. This is an online government platform that helps you access most of the government services in Kenya. It is easy to register for an eCitizen account if you don’t have one yet.

How to Search for A Name

You need to have a rough idea of what your business name should be before you embark on this process.

  • Log into your eCitizen Portal.
  • Visit the “Office of the Attorney General and Department of Justice” tab.
  • Click on the “Make Application” section.
  • Visit the “Name Search Company or Business” area.
  • Read clearly and understand instructions and when done click on the “Apply Now” area.
  • Pick the business entity.
  • Key in the name that you want to search.
  • Give out a brief description of your business.
  • Go through the information before submitting and if it’s correct submit it.
  • Pick the payment method that you prefer. The search fee is Kshs. 150.
  • Wait for the response from the registrar of companies.

The name search takes up to one working day to complete.

  • Information about the business.
  • Identities of the business owners.
  • Postal address as well as the physical address.
  • Copies of the national IDs/Passports.
  • Passport photos of the partners/business owners and their PIN certificates
  • 850 for the registration.

  • Submit your business name. A search letter and Kshs 850 invoice will be created.
  • Make the payments using the preferred method.
  • You will get the confirmation of name registration. Click on the complete button.
  • You will get feedback within 1-2 working days.
