How to apply for a national ID card in Kenya- Easy Step by step guide

Applying for a national ID card (ID) in Kenya is a significant step for citizens to assert their identity and access various services provided by the government.

1. Gather Your Documents:

   • Get your birth certificate or a valid Kenyan passport, two passport-sized photos, and a copy of your parents’ Kenyan ID cards. You’ll also need proof of where you live, like a utility bill or a letter from your local chief.

1. Find the Nearest Registration Center:

   • Look for the closest Huduma Centre or Registration of Persons office. You can check online for their locations.

1. Complete the Application Form:

   • Once at the center, fill out the application form they’ll provide. Make sure to fill in all the details accurately.

1. Submit Your Documents:

   • Hand over your application form and all the required documents to the staff at the registration center.

1. Get Your Biometric Data Captured:

   • They’ll take your fingerprints and a photograph for their records.

1. Wait for Verification:

   • The National Registration Bureau will verify the information you provided.

1. Be Patient and Wait for Collection:

   • Wait for a notification letting you know that your national ID card is ready for pickup. This usually takes a few weeks.

1. Pay the Fee:

   • Don’t forget to pay the fee for the ID card. Ask at the registration center about the current fee and how to pay.
