Have you ever bought Safaricom airtime and loaded it onto your phone, only for it to disappear mysteriously before you even use it? Well, you are not alone. Many Safaricom customers are complaining about losing their airtime because of Safaricom subscriptions that they did not sign up for or no longer need. These subscriptions can be for various services such as Skiza tunes, premium SMS, news alerts, etc. Apart from deducting airtime without your knowledge, they may also send you annoying or irrelevant messages or notifications that may interrupt your phone usage or communication.

Some of these subscriptions may have been activated by mistake or by clicking on misleading links or pop-ups. Others may have been useful at some point but are no longer relevant or desired. Whatever the case, they can be a nuisance and a waste of money.

Fortunately, there are several quick ways to check and cancel or opt out of any Safaricom subscription that you do not need or want. In this article, you will learn how to do so via USSD and the MySafaricom App. This will help you avoid auto-renewal of subscriptions that might deduct your airtime without your consent and spam messages you do not care about.

How to Check and Cancel Active Safaricom Subscriptions

There are three different ways to check and cancel your active Safaricom subscriptions: USSD code *456#, USSD code *100#, and using the MySafaricom App.

Option 1: Using the USSD Code *456#

To check your active Safaricom subscriptions using the USSD code *456#, follow these steps:

  • Dial *456# on your phone and press the call button.
  • You will see a menu with various options. Select option 9 (Stop) and press send.
  • You will see another menu with various categories of subscriptions, such as Data bundles, SMS bundles, Skiza, Premium Services and Games, etc.
  • Select the category you want to check, such as Data bundles, SMS bundles, Skiza, Premium Services & Games, etc.
  • You can select any of these subscriptions to view more details about them or unsubscribe.
  • You will receive a confirmation message that you have successfully unsubscribed from the service.

Option 2: Using the USSD Code *100#

This is another way to check and cancel your active Safaricom subscriptions. Here are the steps to follow:

  • Dial *100# on your Safaricom line.
  • Select option 5 (My Subscriptions) from the menu that appears.
  • Next, Select option 1 (Active Subscriptions).
  • You will see a list of all your active Safaricom subscriptions, such as Data Bundles, SMS Bundles, promotional messages, etc.
  • If there aren’t any services you are subscribed to, then it’s all good. But if there are, you can select any of these subscriptions from the menu and unsubscribe.

Option 3: Using the MySafaricom App

Another way to check and cancel your active Safaricom subscriptions is by using the MySafaricom app. The app is a convenient tool that allows you to manage your Safaricom account and services from your smartphone. To use this method, you must download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and register with your Safaricom number. Here are the steps to follow:

  • Open the MySafaricom app on your phone.
  • Tap on “Account” at the bottom-right corner to access your active subscriptions.
  • Navigate to the “My Subscriptions” tab on the screen.
  • In the screen that follows, you will see different tabs for different categories of subscriptions, such as SMS, Data, Premium Services, Skiza, etc.
  • You can tap on any tab and check if you are subscribed to the service.
  • If you have an active subscription, you can cancel it from there.

Those are the three different methods you can use to check and cancel unwanted Safaricom subscriptions. Please note that these procedures are subject to change by Safaricom and may vary from time to time. Therefore, you need to visit the Safaricom website or call their customer care for guidance if you need help.

How to Avoid Unwanted Safaricom Subscriptions in the Future

While you can easily cancel any subscription using the above methods, you should be careful not to subscribe to any Safaricom services you do not need or want in the first place. Here are some tips on how to avoid unwanted Safaricom subscriptions in the future:

  • Read the terms and conditions carefully before subscribing to any Safaricom service.
  • Avoid clicking on pop-ups or links that may lead to automatic or accidental subscriptions.
  • Check your airtime balance regularly to monitor your usage and charges.
  • Review your active Safaricom subscriptions periodically and cancel any you do not use or enjoy.
  • Be wary of pop-ups, links, messages, or calls that offer you free or discounted services.
