If you’ve ever thought you needed advanced design skills or expensive software to craft stunning infographics that effectively convey your message, that’s not the case. You can use Canva to quickly create eye-catching and informative infographics, even without design experience.

Canva is a free online application that allows anyone, regardless of their design skills or expertise to easily create professional-looking graphics. You can use it to create infographics, logos, flyers, posters, social media posts, presentations, etc. Canva works on desktop and mobile devices, so you can access it anytime and anywhere. You can either install the app on your device or access it through your web browser.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to use Canva to design stunning infographics in five simple steps.

What is an infographic, and why should you use it?

An infographic is a graphical representation of data or knowledge. It uses elements such as charts, icons, images, and text to simplify complex concepts and make them easier to understand. They can enhance your ability to communicate messages more effectively and persuasively than just plain text or numbers. They also contribute to increasing brand awareness, driving website traffic, and boosting lead generation and conversions.

Some of the things infographics are good at include capturing your audience’s attention, explaining complicated or boring topics in a fun or engaging way, and narrating stories or illustrating processes or timelines.

How to create an infographic with Canva

Creating an infographic with Canva is simple and fast. Here are the steps you need to follow:

Step 1: Choose a template or start from scratch

The first step is to select a template. Canva has hundreds of free and premium infographic templates that you can use. To choose a template, open Canva and click on “Infographic” under the “Create a design” section. Then scroll through the templates and click on the one you like.

Alternatively, you can start from scratch if none of the templates look good to you. This means creating your own infographic from a blank canvas. To do this, open Canva and click on “Custom size.” Then enter the dimensions you want for your infographic.

Step 2: Add your data

The next step is to add your data to your infographic or customize it to fit your preferences. You can add text and even charts or graphs. Canva has various charts and graphs—you can use them to display your data visually. They are located under the “Elements” tab on the left sidebar. You can choose from pie charts, bar charts, line charts, scatter plots, etc.

To add data to your canvas, simply choose and click on it from the sidebar, and it will appear on your canvas.

Step 3: Enhance your design with icons, images, and fonts

To make your infographic visually appealing, incorporate icons, images, and fonts. Icons add visual interest and quickly convey ideas, while images provide context and emotion. Fonts inject personality and style into your text. You can find these elements in the “Elements,” “Photos,” and “Text” sections on the left sidebar. Simply click on these elements, and they’ll appear on your canvas. You can then use the editing tools to fine-tune their appearance.

Step 4: Adjust the layout and colours

The fourth step is to adjust the layout and colours using the tools on the top toolbar and the left sidebar. To adjust the layout, drag the elements on the canvas and use the grid and guide tools to create a balanced and symmetrical design. Also, the spacing and margin tools will help you create some white space and breathing room for your elements. Use the colour picker to choose or enter your own hex code for a custom colour. And if you want to resize and crop your elements to fit your canvas, there are tools for that too.

Step 5: Download, share, or print

The last step is all about what to do with your completed infographic. Once you’re satisfied with your creation, you have a few options. If you want to keep a digital copy, you can download it by clicking on the “Download” button in the top right corner. Here, you can pick the format (like PNG, JPG, or PDF) and quality for your file. If you want a physical copy of your infographic, you can print it out after downloading it.

If you’d like to share your infographic with others, hit the “Share” button in the same corner. From there, you can choose how to share it—through email, social media, or by generating a link. You can even invite others to view or edit it by entering their email addresses or sending them a link.

Share.
