You are supposed to file your tax returns with the Kenya Revenue Authority every year. The following is a guide to help you file individual and Nil returns online Via iTax.
Requirements
To successfully file returns online via iTax you need;
- A mobile phone or a computer that is connected to the internet.
- A P9 form from your employer.
- KRA PIN
- iTax Password
How to File Nil KRA Returns Online Via iTax
- You can either file your Nil returns online through the KRA website or download the mobile phone application instantly.
- Download and install the iTax App by the Kenya Revenue Authority on Google Play Store
- Enter your KRA PIN and iTax password. A security stamp will appear. Answer and log in.
- When you log in, click ‘Home’ and choose the ‘Income Tax’ option.
- The tax period will be calculated by the app. Click on ‘Submit’.
- A massage will pop up on your screen to confirm your command on whether you are filing for Nil return. Click ‘Ok’ to confirm.
- You will then get a confirmation message to confirm your successful filing.
- Download the returns receipt and you are done.
How to File Individual KRA Returns Online Via iTax
- Open the app or browser and visit the KRA iTax site.
- Key in the KRA PIN, enter password and security stamp and log in.
- Visit the Returns Menu and choose ITR for Employment Income Only.
- Enter the return period, select ‘Yes’ to the question ‘Do you have employment income?’ and hit the ‘Next’ button.
- Answer the following questions under the basic information and click ‘Next’.
- Visit Section F that has the details of employment income. Confirm name and PIN of the employer, Gross Pay and any other allowances according to your P9 form.
- Then go to Sheet M, information on PAYE deducted and confirm the employer details, chargeable pay, and taxable salary. The details depend on your P9.
- Visit Section Q and capture the payment if any or if they were made before filing the returns.
- After that, go to Section T, Tax computation, enter defined/pension contribution and personal relief. This should be in line with your P9 actual contribution by the employee.
- Click ‘Submit’ and download the E-Return receipt.
File your returns early before the deadline set by KRA to avoid unnecessary fines and penalties.
