A HELB clearance certificate is issued to loan beneficiaries that are done repaying the loan or those who did not get the loan but require the clearance document.
Why Do I Need a HELB Clearance Certificate?
A Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board is a very essential document for job seekers in Kenya. Many employers especially the government ask for the document before you are employed.
Documents Needed When Applying for the HELB Clearance Certificate
- Enquiry form that is found and can be downloaded on the HELB website.
- Letter by the applicant confirming that you did not get the HELB loan (for non-beneficiaries).
- Copies of the national ID/Passport.
- Copies of College/University transcripts and graduation certificates.
- A copy of employer appointment letter.
- A bank deposit slip of Kshs 1,000 payable to HELB, account number 1104823047 KCB University way Branch. Include only the name and ID number on the bank slip. (During the Covid-19 Pandemic, HELB started issuing free compliance certificates)
How to Apply: Beneficiaries
- Visit HELB offices located on the 18th floor of the anniversary Towers on the University Way, Opposite the University of Nairobi.
- Ask for an Enquiry form and fill it. This form can also be downloaded from the HELB Website.
- Attach relevant documents as specified above.
- Drop the documents at the HELB Offices.
HELB Certificates for Non-beneficiaries
It’s simpler for individuals who did not get the HELB loan.
- Open the HELB portal then click “User Registration” on the top menu.
- Fill all the necessary information asked.
- Click to confirm and validate the information.
- A form will pop up. Fill the rest of the details, click Sign Up. Open your email and click on the confirmation email received.
- This completes the HELB account activation. You will be redirected to the Login page.
- After login you will be issued with a form to fill in your personal information. Key in the necessary information and save.
- At the topmost side find ‘Online Services’ and click on it. Pick the compliance certificate on the dropdown menu. Finish the necessary procedures required.
- You will be given a link to download the document.
The process of getting the Clearance Certificate takes a day. Alternatively, you can simply visit the HELB portal online and apply for it online.
