How to Reverse Mpesa Transactions Sent to the Wrong Number
You can do this using two methods mainly;
My Safaricom App
In case you don’t have my Safaricom App, it is important that you get one because it may come in handy. The app helps you make reversals easily and effortlessly.
- Open the Safaricom App on your device.
- Go to Mpesa.
- Pick Mpesa transactions.
- Click on Mini statements.
- You will see all the transactions that have taken place. Against each transaction you can find the reversal icon on their top right corners.
- When you click the reversal option, a new dialogue box will be opened.
- On the dialogue box click Ok.
- Safaricom will then be notified and will take up the reversal matter.
This reversal technique works for Lipa Na Mpesa, Mpesa-Mshwari transactions, and buying airtime.
Through the Shortcode 456
The second method is reversing through an SMS short code designed by Safaricom:
- After the wrong transaction has occurred, go to the Mpesa text that you have received on your device and copy the transaction code.
- Open a new message that is addressed to 456 and paste that transaction ID.
- Press send and wait for Safaricom to handle the matter.
Reversal of Lipa Na Mpesa Paybill
This method is a little complex since it is not possible to initiate it from Safaricom’s end. Nonetheless, Safaricom is able to give you contacts of the merchant who runs that business.
To receive this help, call Safaricom through 191.
When you contact the merchant, you will be required to have the following information for verification;
- Full name
- ID number
- Mpesa transaction ID
- The time the transaction happened
The merchant will give you the information on how you will receive your funds.
Reversal of Lipa Na Mpesa Buy Goods
While shopping and pay to the wrong till number, call Safaricom on 234 and ask for a reversal.
