Many people are now using Chromebooks as their primary devices because of their user-friendly interface and affordability. However, they are relatively new devices that run on the ChromeOS platform, which is also new and different from other operating systems. For this reason, many people who are new to Chromebooks may find it challenging to perform basic operations, such as taking screenshots. Fortunately, you can easily take screenshots on your Chromebook device once you know how to do it, and there are several methods to choose from.
In this guide, you will learn how to take screenshots on your Chromebook computer using three different methods including:
- Keyboard shortcuts
- The built-in screenshot tool
- Chrome browser extensions.
How to take screenshots on a Chromebook using keyboard shortcuts
The simplest way to take screenshots on your Chromebook is by using keyboard shortcuts. To take a screenshot using this method, press “Shift + Ctrl + Show Windows” keys on your keyboard at the same time.
After you press the keys, a menu will pop up at the bottom of your screen. From the menu, you can choose to take a full screenshot, a partial screenshot, or a window screenshot. But if your Chromebook device has a dedicated screenshot key, you can use it instead of the combinations.
To take a partial screenshot, click on its icon on the menu and drag your mouse over the portion of the screen that you want to capture. Your screenshot will be saved automatically on your device’s download folder and copied to your clipboard so you can paste it into a document.
How to take screenshots on a Chromebook using the built-in screenshot tool
Another way to take Screenshots on a Chromebook is by using the built-in screenshot tool. To access this tool, click on the clock at the bottom-right corner of your screen. You will see a screen capture icon at the top-right corner of the menu that pops up—the icon looks like a camera. When you click on it, you will see a menu with different options for taking a full screenshot, a partial screenshot, or a window screenshot.
Like in the keyboard shortcuts method, the screenshots taken with the built-in screenshot tool will be automatically copied to the clipboard and saved to your “Downloads” folder.
How to take screenshots on a Chromebook using Chrome browser extensions
There are several Chrome browser extensions for taking screenshots available on the Chrome Web Store. Nimbus Screenshot and Lightshot are some of the popular options. These tools offer a range of features, including the ability to capture a specific portion of the screen, edit your screenshots, and even record your screen.
Saving Screenshots to Google Drive
By default, Chromebooks save screenshots in the “Downloads folder.” However, you can also save them directly to your Google Drive if you prefer. To save your Chromebook screenshots to Google Drive, open the built-in screen-capture tool and click on the “Settings” icon on the menu. Go to “Save To” and click on “Select Folder”. From there, click on “Google Drive.” Select a specific folder in your Google Drive where you want your screenshots to be saved. This will upload the screenshot to your Google Drive, where you can access it from any device with internet access.
