Infinix Note 3 promised awesome features and it has delivered. The handset was recently unveiled at an invite only event at the Intercontinental hotel, Nairobi. It comes in two models: 3G and LTE models. The latest member of the Infinix Note series is an upgrade of its predecessor, Infinix Note 2.  I can attest to significant hardware upgrades including the 6.0 full HD display and a fingerprint sensor.

What we Think You need to Know

Design and Display

Design sleek, display interesting. The design concept is good and so is the display resolution. The gadget has definitely lost some calories and the outcome is desirable. The Note 2 is 9.3 mm thick while that of note 3 8.4 mm: that’s almost 1mm reduction. One of the most outstanding features has to be the fingerprint sensor. You can now beef up the security of your phone. On top of this, this feature can support the setup of functions such as taking selfies and receiving phone calls.

The device is encrusted with a metallic build, not a very plausible thing considering that this makes the gadget a bit heavy. I did feel the weight but the good news is that I got used. The 6.0-inch smartphone comes with a vibrant display giving the smartphone a premium look and feel. This has been retained but the resolution has been bumped up to 1080 x 1920 for better resolution and view. The sizable screen promises a good experience to those watching movies and those browsing the web. According to my experience, it does fulfill this promise.

Performance

Note 3 rocks Android 6.0 Marshmallow and a 1.3 CPU with 2GB RAM. This is a fantastic setup and I experienced no lags or shutters. The remarkable performance is also evident in the way the various apps open. I was also impressed since the phone can multitask satisfactorily.

Camera(s)

There has been an upgrade, and one we can welcome for that matter. The front facing camera has been upgraded to 5MP from its predecessor’s 2MP. The primary camera retains its capacity of 13MP. These are accompanied by a dual LED flash for the primary camera. I guess my earlier prediction of a 16MP primary and 8MP front facing camera was way too ambitious. The good news is that the camera takes descent photos in good lighting but struggles a bit in low lighting conditions. The camera features are awesome and they add to the overall experience which is nothing short of brilliant. I did enjoy my date with this camera and below are some pictures that I captured.

Battery

The handset comes with a 4500mAh battery capacity and a 4.5 duo charge engine. It also comes with an Aerospace Cooling Technology that Infinix alleges prevents the battery from overheating. Nevertheless, the most distinctive feature has to be the 5 minute fast charge feature that guarantees 200 minutes of talk time! This is awesome especially during a power shortage. This is the first Infinix smartphone to have this feature and it is seen as a response to the overheating complains. There are some unkind memes especially on social media platforms mocking the smartphone’s overheating problem. I was able to enjoy 10 hours of screen time on heavy use and I consider this okay.

Bottom Line

Infinix Note 3 is an awesome budget phone. The battery life is premium for such a budget handset and the camera is impressive. That’s not all, the performance is exemplary. Infinix promised more possibilities and enriching experiences and I believe the giant smartphone manufacturer made conscious efforts to deliver this. The launch of the enviable phone comes at a much needed time since it was necessary for Infinix to redeem itself from the negative publicity it has received due to the numerous overheating complains online. The handset sports remarkable features and apart from negligible issues like weight, many things seem A-Okay.

So Rad

  • Desirable design
