As expected the iPhone 14 came with a few different features that the previous phones did not have. One of the most notable ones is the Crash Detection feature.
What is Crash Detection?
The crash detection feature is a remarkable work of technology that helps you get help when you are involved in a crash.
When your iPhone detects a severe car crash, it instantly connects to emergency services. This alerts your emergency contact about the crash and location.
How does Crash Detection work?
You may be wondering how this feature works because there are instances where you may be involved in different scenarios that look like a crash.
When your device detects a severe crash, it will show an alert instantly and automatically initiate an emergency phone call. This will happen after 20 seconds, unless it’s a false alarm then you can instantly cancel it.
In situations where you are unresponsive, the device will initiate an emergency audio message for emergency services. This informs them that you have been in a crash.
Moreover, the crash detection feature informs them of the longitudinal and latitudinal coordinates. They indicate the search radius.
Additionally, when a crash is detected by the iPhone, this feature will not override any emergency calls that may be placed in any other way.
How to Turn it On and Off
Just like many other settings, the Crash Detection feature is on by default. You can switch off alerts and automatic emergency calls from Apple after a severe car crash in the settings section. Go to ‘Emergency SOS’ then turn off ‘Call After Severe Crash’.
Third-party apps that are downloaded or registered to detect crashes on your device will still be notified and won’t be affected by this iPhone feature.
What about CarPlay or Apple Watch?
In case your vehicle is connected to CarPlay the feature will go through your iPhone.
Furthermore, if you have your Apple Watch when a crash happens, dialling will be placed by iPhone but Crash Detection will be via your Apple Watch.
