Mwalimu National Sacco is one of the best SACCOs in Kenya that was started in 1974. It focuses on providing its members with financial services such as banking and credit at reasonable rates.
As the name suggests, most of Mwalimu National Sacco’s members are teachers, including those employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). The SACCO’s low-interest rate loans have made it stand out from other SACCOs in the country.
There are two categories of members at the Mwalimu National SACCO; Class A and Class B.
Class A members include TSC employees, Mwalimu National Sacco Society staff, former MNS employees, spouses of members and their children who must be above 18, lecturers, and teachers employed by school boards of management.
Class B members comprise students undertaking education-related studies leading to diplomas. Others include students sponsored by MNS under Childhope Foundation and former members who have withdrawn all their deposits and have not transferred their shares to any other member.
To join Mwalimu National Sacco, you have to meet the following requirements:
- You must be 18 years or above.
- You must be a Kenyan Citizen or an ordinary resident of Kenya.
- You must be of sound mind.
- You must have a clean criminal record, i.e., you must not have been convicted of any criminal offense or sentenced to a jail term of more than six months.
- You must be of good standing character.
How to become Mwalimu National Sacco Member
Joining the Sacco is easy. If you possess any of the above requirements for Class A or Class B membership, download the membership application form from the SACCO’s website. You can also get it from a SACCO representative or one of the SACCO’s branches countrywide. Once you’ve completed filling out the form, return it to the SACCO offices or to the SACCO delegate.

The Sacco has 18 branches, two in Nairobi (Upperhill and CBD) and the rest spread across the country in the following locations: Kisumu, Nyeri, Webuye, Mombasa, Kisii, Kitui, Meru, Nakuru, Eldoret, Kakamega, Machakos, Embu, Homabay, Thika, and Kapenguria.
