Google Docs is a free word processing application that allows users to create and edit documents online. The app’s default font, Arial, might not be your most preferred. You can easily access other fonts like Roboto, Montserrat, and Times New Romans on the document’s menu. While you might feel comfortable using the available fonts, you can also add more artistic-looking fonts to your Google Docs if you wish.
There are two ways to add more fonts to your Google Docs. The easiest is through the application’s toolbar (although it is a little tucked away). Another way is through extensions. In this guide, you will learn how to add more fonts to Google Docs using both ways.
How to Add More Fonts Through the Toolbar
- Open your Google Docs application
- Create a new document or open an existing one
- From the toolbar, click on the drop-down menu labelled “Arial” (the default font) to reveal more available fonts
- Click on “More fonts”
- You will see many fonts on the list. Click on as many as you want.
- The selected fonts will now appear on the drop-down list. You can access them from the list whenever you want to use them.
How to Add More Fonts by Installing an Extension
If you can’t find your preferred fonts in Google Docs, you can get more by installing third-party apps. There are various extensions that can provide you with a variety of fonts (Extensis Fonts is a great example).
Here’s how to add more fonts using the Extensis Fonts extension:
- Open your Google Docs document
- Select “Extensions” on the toolbar
- Go to “Add-ons” and then click on ”Get Add-ons”
- On the search bar, type “Extensis Fonts” or the name of any other third-party app providing fonts
- Now click “Search”
- Select and install the Extension
To use the fonts from the Extension you have just installed, go back to the extensions tab on the toolbar and click on “Extensis Fonts”. The extension will load on the sidebar with a list of fonts for you to choose from. You can choose whichever font you like from the list.
