You can easily make your monthly contributions to NHIF through M-Pesa Paybill number 200222. The contributions for the voluntary and self-employed is Kshs 500 per month.

NHIF, National Hospital Insurance Fund, is a government health insurance firm that provides insurance for Kenyans whose requirement is a monthly contribution of Kes.500, to activate the cover. Those who are employed, employer has a responsibility to deduct and remit a certain amount based on individual salary amounts

Self employed Kenyans and other Kenyans wishing to make voluntary NHIF contributions can pay using NHIF M-pesa paybill number

How to Make Your Contributions Via M-Pesa

  1. Go to the M-Pesa menu and select the Lipa na M-Pesa option.
  2. Select the Pay Bill option.
  3. Enter NHIF Business Number 200222.
  4. Enter Account Number – this is the contributor’s National Identity Card Number.
  5. Enter the amount you wish to send and press okay.
  6. Enter your M-Pesa Pin
  7. Confirm if the details are correct then press okay
  8. After successful submission, you will receive a confirmation SMS from M-Pesa.

Take note that contribution due date is 9th of every month. You should make your contribution via NHIF M-pesa Paybill before the 9th to ensure uninterrupted services and to avoid penalties. Payments can also be made through NBK,KCB,Equity and Cooperative banks.

There has been a number of changes that NHIF have been implementing over the years. This has resulted in its payment options being stretched out forcing clients to dig a little deeper into their pockets.

How to Check Your NHIF  Status

For existing members, you can check your NHIF Account status on your phone easily;

  • Compose a new SMS
  • Type the letters “ID”, space, then your ID number (or passport number if applicable) e.g ID 12345678
  • Send to 21101
