Taxi Chap Chap is officially the new kid on the taxi hailing service block. The recently launched service is expected to take on Uber, Safaricom’s Little Cab and other key players.

The app was launched after six months of trying. Despite the fact that the e-haling service industry and market is somehow saturated by now, Taxi Chap Chap management believes that the industry can still accommodate more players.

Uber, Little Cab, Mondo and others have already attained popularity; hence, the newbie will have to bring something new and interesting to the table to reach such heights. And, it seems the management was well aware of this.

Two of its features stand out, first, the cab hailing service has introduced CabMiles, a customer loyalty program which will allows customer to redeem earned points for money or rides: Kind of how you redeem points at the supermarket for goods. Second, customers will be able to track rides and perform other important functions. Well, the latter is not an entirely new but at least they have considered it.

During the launch, Mr. Sriram S. Iyer, the General Manager, was quoted reiterating the company’s commitment to ensure that customers enjoy good services. He laid emphasis on the company’s plans to develop unique security services for enhanced of customer safety. He termed innovation as a priority strategy that would see the company provide top notch services.

For now, the service is only available in Nairobi but plans are underway to ensure that other major towns benefit too. That’s not all, future plans are to venture into other African countries.

The app is available to both Android and iOS. Users who download the app between 1st and 30th September will participate in a draw that will reward the lucky winner with a free trip to Dubai. Uber did give free Chopper rides recently and this definitely raised the bar. Wonder what will come next: a free ticket to watch live matches perhaps?

Going forward, it will be interesting to see how things unfold especially in terms of competition. There have already been events that have raised eyebrows; hence, it will be interesting to see how things play out in the next couple of months.
