What is Cloud? And what are the benefits of cloud to your business

4

Cloud Computing often referred to as “the Cloud” is the delivery of on-command computing resources-everything from applications to data centres-over the internet on a pay-use basis.

In layman’s terms, cloud refers to computing that is based on the internet. In the past, the only way people would run applications or program would be to download software on a computer or server available in the building. Today, cloud allows people to access and use such applications or programs via the internet. A good instance is when someone updates their Facebook status, checking bank account balance from their mobile devices, in both instances, cloud is being used. Cloud is becoming an important tool for businesses. Its usage in business has been increasing over time and this trend is expected to continue into the future. This feature bears several benefits to business owners. Below are the benefits:

As a tool that helps business people manage their computing needs online, cloud offers flexibility and convenience. Given that it is possible to access needed information virtually at any place and time, cloud is seen as a tool that allows people to conduct business operations flexibly. Unlike earlier when someone had to be physically present at an office, the internet has allowed people to work remotely through cloud. This is because data can be accessed from anywhere at any time provided internet connectivity is available. Scalability is also possible as operations and storage needs can be scaled up or down instantly to meet needs.

Cost reduction is a benefit that has encouraged many business owners to manage and maintain IT systems using cloud. Instead of buying expensive systems and tools for the establishment, costs can be reduced through the use of resources as provided by cloud computing provider. It is possible to reduce costs of operation because there is no need to continue paying salaries or wages for expert staff, energy consumption costs may go down, fewer time delays, and costs to cover system upgrade may be included in the signed contract.

Business continuity is yet another benefit of using cloud in a business. Data and system protection is important to business continuity and planning. In case of a natural disaster, power blackout or other incidents, cloud protects data by ensuring that it is stored in a safe location and there is back up in case of data loss. When a business person is able to access data quickly, he or she is able to conduct business operations as usual, hence minimising loss of productivity time. The fact that one can also access automatic updates also ensures continuity. The system automatically updates with latest technology.

Collaboration in an environment using cloud empowers people within the business environment to share easily. If, for instance, a business person is working on a project remotely, he or she can use cloud to give employees, contractors and other involved parties access to files you are using. One can also choose a cloud computing feature that allows the sharing records with advisers.

The future of cloud computing is looking promising. It has been projected that more and more business will continue to adopt this IT model due to its efficiency, convenience and affordability.
