At times you may not be prepared for a power blackout. However, Safaricom Limited and Kenya Power have a rapid service that can save the day. The following is how a Safaricom subscriber can use Okoa Stima to avoid power disconnection by KPLC;
What is Okoa Stima?
It is a service that allows both prepay and postpay customers a temporary quick solution for all their power needs.

Requirements
This service is only available to Safaricom subscribers.
- Unregistered meters are not eligible.
- You can register up to three meters for pre-paid and post-paid accounts.
- The loan limit is based on the historical relationship with Kenya Power.
Okoa Stima facilitates a minimum loan amount of Kshs 100 and a maximum amount of Kshs 2,000.
The loans attract an interest rate of 10%. Moreover, the loan is presented through Mpesa and lasts for 7 days.
How Does it Work?
Your Mpesa account will be deducted with an amount of top-up and a facility fee. The amount that you request is sent to your phone as a token for prepaid accounts. In the case of a post-paid account, the bill is cleared.
How to Register for Okoa Stima
- Dial *885# using your Safaricom line.
- Read and Understand the terms and conditions and accept if you agree.
- Give out your national ID number.
- Set the Pin.
- Continue after receiving the confirmation message.
- Enter the pin number.
- Choose register meter/account and pick “Register Now”.
- Enter the account type. It can either be pre-paid or post-paid.
- Enter the Kenya Power account number and then submit the information after confirming it’s right.
Steps to Follow to Okoa Stima
- Dial *885# and follow the prompts. Key in Pin.
- Select the option that you want and then “Okoa Stima”.
- Pick the “Request emergency top-up option” and then key in the meter number.
- Choose the amount set and press okay.
