The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) is urging motorists to start making arrangements to access the Nairobi Expressway once it is commissioned by President Uhuru Kenyatta even as a few people have been allowed to use it in a pilot program that is currently underway.
Moja Expressway, a subsidiary of China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), will operate the road for 27 years to recoup the money through toll fees. The firm has built the road under a public-private partnership.
1. Register.
You physically have to go register at the Nairobi Expressway Service Center on Mombasa Rd at Cabanas.
There’s 2 types; ETC & MTC. For ETC you need the car’s log book + ID. For MTC you just need your ID
Cost: 300/-
2. Get MOJA Card.
Add toll points (in terms of KES) to your card. They can do it for you at the service center or you can recharge from their website (http://nairobiexpressway.ke)
3. Toll Station Entry.
For MTC users, you’ll queue (if there’s a queue) and a toll attendant will serve you. ETC users don’t need an attendant for service, everything is automated.
4. Toll Station Exit.
For MTC users, you’ll provide a receipt that was issued at entry and toll points will be deducted depending on the distance travelled.
ETC is just smooth exiting.
5. AOB
MTC users can use their card when driving different vehicles.
ETC users can’t do the same since the card is paired with the car during registration.
MTC – Manual Toll Collection
ETC – Electronic Toll Collection
The government has gazetted price charges for using the Nairobi Expressway.
According to the Gazette notice, each driver on the Nairobi Expressway will be required to pay a fee of between Sh310 and Sh100 to use the new road. The charges will depend on the distance travelled.
Transport CS James Macharia announced that the drivers will pay Sh310 from Mlolongo to James Gichuru and Sh260 from Jame Gichuru to JKIA and vice versa.

What about if I have two cars or more, and am opting to ETC with all the logbooks be paired in one card or I pay separately? If I don’t use the road for long and have paid, will the fee paid expire?
