I am sure you’ve seen the hype on the new test that Safaricom is pushing for businesses. Under the hashtag #ReadyBusiness, the company is looking to help businesses have better operational agility, better connected employees, and better customer engagement.

Under the above three pillars, businesses can determine if they’re ready for a constantly changing landscape in which they operate in. This is necessary if they’re to take advantage of emerging opportunities.

With the recent closure of some big media outlets under Nation Media Group, it is vital that businesses be prepared to innovate to remain relevant. Being able to take advantage of new opportunities and respond quickly to shifting market conditions becomes ever more vital.

The need to constantly grow and improve employee productivity and engagement also becomes important for a business looking to maximize collaboration and mobility. And of course, a better customer experience ensures a business has a competitive edge and well positioned to build new income streams.

The Safaricom Test

The test starts by evaluating the nature of your business. Are you into the wholesale, hospitality, media, manufacturing, construction, finance, or agribusiness? All the major industries have been covered including public administration.

The test also looks at the number of employees, locations, spend, customer details, product offering and communication methods. This helps to evaluate the size and scope of your business. It also looks at how your business is leveraging existing communication methods including online tools like Facebook, YouTube, and website.

At the end of the test, you receive a business score as a percentage. You also receive hints on how to increase your readiness score with various recommendations.

I liked the Safaricom test as it helps businesses gauge their technology adoption levels and areas they can improve on. While it seems basic, it can be eye opener. Besides, it’s free. Businesses, large or small, will no doubt benefit from taking the test.
