Telkom Kenya has launched its Telkom Kenya 4G network as part of its rebrand. It becomes the second telco in Kenya to do so after Safaricom.
To access 4G, customers need to acquire 4G SIM cards and also get a 4G phone. Telkom has shared that it has about 160 4G sites in 9 towns in the country.
Telkom has apparently invested Ksh. 5 Billion in upgrading its network. Its 2G coverage is at 95% and 3G is at 55%.
Telkom is using 4G license on trial basis and haven’t paid for it yet. Safaricom paid Ksh. 2.53 Billion for a 4G licence.
The mobile data market is growing year on year as more Kenyans go online. Their competitor Safaricom recently launched 4G+, a faster version of 4G.
